Applying a thin coating of beeswax to thread smooths the fibres of the thread, preventing fraying and making it easier for thread to glide through fabric as you sew. It also streng thens threads and helps to avoid tangling, and is particularly useful on metallic threads and other specialty threads that are prone to catching. Whether you're an embroiderer, quilter or just for general hand-sewing, a wee block of beeswax in your sewing kit is essential, and we've made it even better by putting it in a simple tin to ensure your wax stays clean, and only goes where you put it. To condition your thread, hold the top and bottom of the open tin between thumb and fingers, with your thumb on the wax. Run the thread between the wax and your thumb, using gentle pressure to not apply too much wax, then smooth the thread between thumb and forefinger to even out the wax coating.
