I think these are the essential beginning tools for a smith starting out. Hand forged cross peen hammer correctly hardened and tempered and well fit to a hickory handle. Student ha mmers are the same as my regular hammers but with a matte finish instead of the laborious mirror bright finish my usual hammers have. Hand forged tongs to securely hold round square and flat steel up to 1/2”. correctly hardened and tempered tool steel( w-1 grade) punch suitable to punch holes from 1/4”-9/16” dia.
