The Bei Tang Plumcot is an intriguing hybrid of the Sapalta Cherry plum and Capilano Apricot. It's characterized by a sweet, distinctive flavour and freestone flesh similar to an apricot. Its parentage of Cherry plum is recognizable in its later flowering white blossoms and its memorable pink-red fruits. This plumcot grows as a multi-stem tall and wide shrub. Bei Tang Plumcots typically measure 3 to 4 cm (1.5") and mature by late August. This variety is early-bearing, often producing fruit within just 2 to 3 years. Bei Tang was bred by Thean Pheh of Edmonton, Alberta. In Mandarin, Bei Tang translates to "Northern Candy." Growers Note: It is highly recommended that you purchase a Canada Plum or an American Plum to pollinate our Hybrid plums, as they are self-sterile. Western Sandcherry has also proven to be an effective pollinator for Bei Tang. Plum trees like fertile, well-drained soil. They should be planted at least 3-4m (12-15 feet) apart, and fruit can be expected around 2 to 3 years of age.
