Linen is considered the superior material for 'canvas' painting supports. The fibres are much stronger than cotton and the yarns used to make linen can be much finer, resulting in a tighter and smoother finish. Linen is less elastic than cotton 'duck' (canvas) which makes it tougher to stretch, but can result in a tighter and firmer substrate. It also has a beautiful colour which some artists take advantage of, using clear grounds, for example. Traditional for Oil painting, also suitable for Acrylic and other media. The 54.5" wide 10oz. Linen is a medium texture, similar to typical cotton canvas, sometimes referred to as "landscape' linen.
