Belief2026Acrylic91 x 121cm “Belief” reflects my relationship with religion over the course ofmy life. As a child, I watched people draw lines between believersand non-believers, u sing faith as a way to separate themselvesfrom others. I developed an understanding that although religionmay be comforting to some, it can also be deeply damaging toothers. Over time, I also became aware of how religion can be usedbeyond personal spirituality. How it has shaped governments,influenced power, and justified the exclusion of those who donot conform. This realization created a sense of resistance withinme. The red-clad figures in the work represent a kind of hunger.They search endlessly, reaching for something to claim as truthor divinity, ready to grasp at anything that might affirm theirpurpose. At the center, a yellow star draws attention. It radiates,but its meaning is uncertain. For me, the glow holds an unresolvedtension. It could represent warmth and guidance, the promiseoften associated with faith. But it could also signal danger, awarning of how belief can intensify into something consuming.I leave that question open, inviting viewers to consider wherebelief offers light, and where it casts shadows.
