Pristine citrus fruit, red apple and elderflower notes with a stoney mineral kick and a waxiness. All the beguiling racy Mosel flavours jump from the glass immediately, backed up with good texture. Annaberg comes from one of the few hillside sites on the Mosel in which the typical grey slate morphs into a copper-coloured red slate. The vineyard is extremely steep, and climate is continental. Riesling thrives in the Mosel due to its cooler climate, great drainage and good aspect. The proximity to the river not only helps in keeping temperate conditions but also helps to ripen the fruit by reflecting sunlight throughout the valley. The wines have naturally high acidity while reaching an optimum ripeness and flavour profile. Grapes are hand harvested and undergo spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts in old oak casks. The wine then spends 11 months on its lees in barrel. The finished wine has 3g/L of residual sugar, and is bottled unfined with just a touch of sulphur at bottling.
