Beneficial Shock! The name says it all. This is a film magazine that wants to shake up the genre, and we think it succeeds admirably. Subtitled 'Unconventional Cinematic Adventures ' this is as much a creative magazine as a critical one, and pulls off the trick of appealing to both film fans and design enthusiasts. Every issue will have a theme (it's food this time) around which to hang the proceedings, and this issue certainly doesn't sit still. It's heavy on quality illustration for strips, idea-mapping, interpretation and documentation, leavened with some irreverant photography. The creators of Beneficial Shock! are experienced hands who've assembled an interesting cast of established and emerging creatives to offer something fresh and, as they'd hoped, progressive. Show more
