In ancient Rome "Bestiarri" or "Beast-Hunter" was name given to fighters trained specifically to fight and handle wild animals. They often wore elaborate helmets decorated with man es or mounted heads of lions, tigers and leopards - the more elaborate, lifelike the headpiece the more powerful and self-assured the fighter.
