Once secured, the shelf is filled with dry pack mortar or deck mud and tiled to match the surrounding shower wall or bathroom tile installation. Important: Do not use thin-set mortar to fill the shelf. A dry pack mortar mixture using approximately 4 parts sand to 1 part cement is recommended. The BT-17 is designed with perforated holes underneath the shelf, allowing mortar to penetrate slightly and create a bonding surface for underside tile installation. Important: The underside of the BT-17 must be tiled because the shelf is typically mounted higher on the wall where the bottom surface remains visible. Waterproof Performance The BT-17 is engineered to maintain waterproof integrity without requiring additional waterproofing membranes.
