In late spring the mountain can't decide what season it wants. Fresh snow clung to the summit while deep green grasses rolled across the hills below, and yellow wildflowers pushed up through the foothills as if the valley hadn't gotten the memo about the storm overhead. Then the clouds parted — just barely, just long enough — and the sun threaded through to catch the peak in a brief wash of warm light. The whole scene lasted minutes. The panoramic let me hold the full sweep: the storm building on the left, the illuminated mountain on the right, and between them that wide green valley bathed in the shifting light of a season still making up its mind.
