Boasting stunningly buttery, sweet fruits with just a hint of aromatic rosewater, 'Beurré Hardy' is one of the very finest pear cultivars available today. A tough and reliable performer in British conditions, the pear gets its name not from its robust nature (though it does have an RHS hardiness of H6) but from a Monsieur Julien-Alexandre Hardy, who was head gardener at the Luxembourg Gardens, in Paris, at the time it was discovered. Alongside its fabulous culinary properties, the pears of 'Beurré Hardy' also display good resistance to common pear problems like scab. Dating all the way back to 1820, or thereabouts, this French heritage variety has been dazzling palates for over 200 years! This variety is a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit, indicating its stellar performance in British gardens.
