Beyond Rangoon (1995) is a biographical drama directed by John Boorman, starring Patricia Arquette, Frances McDormand and Spalding Gray. The film follows Laura Bowman (Arquette), a n American tourist who, after personal tragedy, becomes entangled in the 1988 pro-democracy protests in Burma. As she journeys across the country with activist U Aung Ko (Gray), they witness the oppressive military regime's brutality and strive to escape to Thailand.
