Israeli infantry forces used a wide variety of small arms, from foreign designs like the US M16 assault rifle and Belgian FN MAG light machine-gun, to captured Soviet designs like the AK-47/AKM assault rifles and Negev machine-guns. However, the frontline mechanized brigades were issued with Israeli designed and produced Galil assault rifles, backed up with FN MAG machine-guns.
