The Big Elmer tomato is a one-of-a-kind heirloom that produces massive, vibrant orange fruits often weighing two pounds or more. Boasting almost fluorescent orange skins, the color of these tomatoes was unlike anything we've seen. What's more, despite their impressive size, the fruits are relatively crack-free, with only occasional stitching on the shoulders. They are juicy and flavorful, offering a well-balanced mix of sweetness and acidity, making Big Elmer is an excellent choice for slicing, canning, or making fresh tomato juice. This rare variety has a history as colorful as its fruit. Seed was shared with us by Jim Kudek of Waldo, Wisconsin, who acquired his stock about 15 years ago from a nursery in southern Indiana. Although that nursery has since closed, the owner told Jim that the tomato originally came from Louisville, Kentucky.
