This painting represents the biliary system's vessels within the liver. It features the hexagons with in the liver because the functional unit of the liver, the lobules, are arrang ed in hexagons. Hepatocytes with canaliculi between them make up the graphic border on the mat. The canaliculi collect the bile and transport it to increasingly larger bile ducts that eventually lead the bile to the gallbladder where bile is stored. Show more
