Best’s Great Western as a Shiraz ‘house’ has gathered experience with the variety through the legacy of Best’s long winemaking history dating back to the 1860’s. Bin 1 Shiraz is the wine that often gives people an introduction to the regional style of Great Western Shiraz. Made predominantly from Best’s own vineyards, Bin 1 Shiraz represents the essence of Best’s winemaking ideals and the uniqueness of the Great Western region. Bin 1 is a classic, cool climate, aromatic Shiraz, made in a style that is perfumed, spicy and peppery, yet well balanced. It’s a great match with food - particularly dishes like spring lamb. TECHNICAL DETAILS Region: Great Western, Victoria Grape Variety: Shiraz Alcohol: 14% Winemaker: Justin Purser TASTING NOTES Colour: Brooding deep red Bouquet: Notes of pepper, oak, liquorice, deep red fruits with a slight herbaceous stalky character. Palate: Deep earthy and dark fruits, a long palate that is tight along the sides with the slightest hint of savoury herbs. While its young, it will benefit from decanting. Cellaring: This vibrant wine is great to enjoy now with food but will soften and gain complexity over the next 5-10 years. Ideal to drink with a meat lovers pizza with added capsicum and mushrooms. Vintage: A hot and dry growing season meant our shiraz vines ripened quickly however crops were lower than average. Sufficient water supply ensured our vines remained in good health and a cool February helped ensure all the natural acidity was retained at harvest. The grapes had plenty of concentrated flavour and vibrant acidity.
