Biodegradation In the manufacturing process of sugar surfactants, parts of the plant-based raw materials starch, sugar and fat are removed, but their natural structure is fully preserved. It is therefore relatively easy for microorganisms to break down sugar surfactants very quickly and completely to 100%. According to the OECD, sugar surfactants are considered to be easily biodegradable. Ethanol and glycerine are reintegrated into the natural cycle within a few hours.
