Known as Filipendula ulmaria The Meadowsweet is a very popular wildflower grown in damp meadows and along the edges of ponds and river banks in Europe and Asia, as well as throughout North America's eastern coast. Growing to heights of up to five feet, it has fern like foliage, and tufts of soft, fluffy, creamy-white flowers clustered close together, which possess a strong, sweet fragrance. Meadowsweet belongs to the rose family, and was Queen Elizabeth's favorite strewing herb. It outranked all other strewing herbs because its aromatic leaves didn't cause headaches, unlike many other strongly scented leaves.
