A passion for Vaslav Nijinsky and a desire to express the wonder of his genius (and complexity of his humanity) inspired this work. 'Nijinsky and the Ecstasy of the Divine' is a se ries made in collaboration with dancer Aleix Martinez in Hamburg Germany in 2014. John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet performed Nijinsky in 2012 in Brisbane Australia. There I saw a young dancer perform the role of Stanislav Nijinsky. He was mesmerising. In that moment I decided he was the one to work with to create this series. Synchronicity led to the meeting that made the series possible. Without costumes or sets, this is an exploration of essence. 'Bird Floor Window' was made in Hamburg in one of the old port buildings. The old, well worn wooden floor is resonant of dance rehearsal floors of the ages, of the many hours of anonymous rehearsal both mundane and profound, behind every great artist. The dancer's legs are barely visible. Silver gelatin photograph from an original analogue negative - A medium format camera was used with silver gelatin negative film. Darkroom print by the artist.
