Handcrafted by Toho Kiln, this distinctive Bizen ware flower vase features a triangular form with decorative side handles and the dramatic color variations of traditional Sangiri firing. In natural Sangiri, areas of the pottery that come into contact with ash and glowing embers undergo strong reduction firing, creating unexpected shifts in color and texture. Toho Kiln also uses a traditional technique in which charcoal is placed around the vessel near the end of firing. The carbon-rich reduction atmosphere produces bold contrasts and expressive markings across the unglazed surface. Because the colors and firing patterns are created naturally inside the kiln, each vase is entirely unique. Its sculptural form is beautifully suited for seasonal flowers, ikebana, a tea-room tokonoma, or an elegant interior display.
