Its exact species has not been scientifically confirmed, and it was first discovered by local centipede hunters around 2019. Adults commonly exceed 25 cm and can be incredibly powerful. Unlike most Asian centipedes, which have contrasting body and leg colors, mature Black Javas become almost completely jet black. Younger individuals have lighter orange legs that gradually darken as they grow. This centipede comes from the humid volcanic mountains of Java, Indonesia, where it is often reported near waterfalls. Its care is similar to other tropical giants, requiring warm temperatures and high humidity. It is an incredibly fast and powerful hunter that can leap surprisingly long distances when attacking prey, so keepers must be extremely careful during feeding.
