Black Mammoth is an impressive heirloom sunflower that lives up to its name. Towering plants reach 8 to 10 feet tall and produce enormous yellow blooms measuring up to 12 inches across. As the flowers mature, the heavy seed heads fill with hundreds of glossy black seeds that are eagerly sought by birds and other wildlife. We like to toss a few mature heads to our chickens and watch them circle around, frantically gobbling seeds before the neighboring hen gets them. Fun for everyone. The tall plants make a dramatic backdrop in the garden and provide an excellent source of nectar for bees and other pollinators while in bloom. Leave the mature heads standing for wildlife, harvest them for feeding chickens, or save seed for planting the following year. Blooms mid to late summer; approximately 110 days to mature seed. Each packet contains a minimum of 50 seeds.
