The species is well adapted to survive extreme conditions such as drought, fires, and very cold temperatures. This small shrub, native to dry, rocky habitats and reminds of a small Cordyline but belongs in the strange family Velloziaceae, which is most closely related to Pandanus and Cyclanths. It makes an interesting, palm-like bonsai and has pretty, lily-like, purplish blue flowers. Show more
