The Black Studies Unit 4: Inventors & Innovators course explores how Black creators across science, engineering, medicine, music, and technology identified real-world problems and designed solutions that continue to shape everyday life. Students examine innovation as a form of creativity, resistance, and community care while developing critical thinking, discussion, and systems-analysis skills. The Black Genius Project Curriculum is a research-based educational framework that centers the intellectual achievements and historical contributions of Black children across the African diaspora. Developed by educator Nakia Navarro, this curriculum reconnects young learners with millennia of African innovation in mathematics, medicine, astronomy, architecture, engineering, agriculture, literature, and governance. By restoring these often-overlooked narratives, the program builds academic rigor alongside confidence, curiosity, and cultural pride—empowering students to recognize their own potential and place within a legacy of brilliance.
