About the Black Swordtail Black Swordtail fish, scientifically known as Xiphophorus hellerii, are a color variation of the common Swordtail, known for their striking black colorati on and the prominent "sword" extension on the male's tail. They are peaceful, adaptable, and active additions to community aquariums. Because this species can get quite large in size (up to 4-5 inches in most captive specimens), it will need greater tank volumes compared to other livebearers. However, like most livebearers, Swordtails are fond of harder water parameters.
