The buildings came down in 2011. Every bottle of Caperdonich remaining on Earth is a finite resource. When this cask is gone, there is no second cask to draw from. About Blackadder Founded 1995 by Robin Tucek, Blackadder is run today as a family operation with daughter Hannah and son Michael. Built on a single conviction: the cask is king. No chill filtration, no added colour, no compromise. The Statement Edition series represents Blackadder's flagship releases, casks chosen as definitive examples of a distillery or style. Reserved for liquid the family considers the highest expressions of their independent bottling philosophy. Distillery profile Caperdonich was built in 1898 as Glen Grant #2, a sister distillery to Glen Grant in Rothes, Speyside, connected to its sibling by a pipe carrying new make spirit across the road. Mothballed multiple times across the twentieth century, the distillery closed for good in 2002. The buildings came down in 2011. The site is now used by Forsyths, the still maker, for cooperage and equipment fabrication. Every bottle of Caperdonich today is drawn from a finite pool that gets smaller every year. Independent bottlings at this age are increasingly rare on the market. Cask profile A single hogshead, distilled May 1996 and bottled December 2022 after 26 years of maturation. Hogsheads hold roughly 250 litres, the workhorse cask size of Scottish maturation, large enough for slow integration and small enough to drive measurable evolution year over year. Bottled at 55.2% cask strength, non-chill filtered, natural colour. The wood has had nearly three decades to integrate with the distillate. From a Statement Edition cask, selected as a definitive example of long-aged Speyside character from a distillery that no longer exists.
