Blak Power Comix is a social impact initiative using comics and visual storytelling to encourage youth literacy and creative expression for young people in outback Australia. Produced in partnership with the Northern Centre for Contemporary Art. Proudly published by not-for-profit Wild North Arts, all profits from each issue directly support workshops, mentorships, exhibitions and oppurtunites for the next generation of creators. The series is an art anthology documenting the first retrospective of First Nations superheroes, featuring an essay on the history of Indigenous representation in comics by Jonathon Saunders (creator of Zero-Point) and Aboriginal Timeline in Comic Books and Capes by Luke Pearson (IndigenousX). The quarterly anthology showcases work from leading First Nations writers and illustrators alongside emerging artists from across the country. Featuring art by Tony Albert, Karla Dickens, Layne Dhu-Dickie, Dennis Golding, Molly Hunt, Emily Johnson, Dylan Mooney, Donovan Mota, Ray Mudjandi, Jonathon Saunders, Kaylene Whiskey and work by Basically Black, RedbackGraphic Iwantja Young Women’s Film Project & Neomad.
