In 1983, after Blancpain's brush with death caused by the quartz crisis, the company name was purchased by Jean-Claude Biver – The president of Louis Vuitton's watchmaking division – and Jacques Piguet, the son of Fréderic Piguet and the director of Piguet's movement manufacturer. This business move, along with the company's aim to revive mechanical watchmaking after the crisis, was the beginning of the Blancpain revival. Blancpain decided to re-introduce some of its famed complications instead of reducing costs to try and save the company.
