Blasphemous presents a nightmarish twist on the mystic Catholicism and gothic architecture of The Game Kitchen's hometown of Seville. The revered Metroidvania abounds with twisted religious iconography and esoteric symbolism. Composer Carlos Viola's haunting score is an inseparable part of the game's singular atmosphere, translating themes of suffering, guilt and loneliness into deeply emotive music that pushes from tragedy towards transcendence. The soundtrack conjures a specific sense of place and time, drawing from Spanish folk guitar traditions, medieval chorales and orchestral ornamentation to create a kind of occult chamber music.
