While a law student, Frédéric and his friends hosted energetic debates on many topics, especially Catholic social teachings. When challenged to demonstrate what real good the Churc h was doing, Frédéric and some of his fellow students formed the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul to be a ministry to the poor.
