Rum first, then smoke. This one opens the way a heavy decanter opens, warm and resinous and a little reckless. Rum and olibanum arrive together, cut by bitter orange, grapefruit and bergamot, with cardamom, ginger and pink pepper putting heat behind them. Dried fruits and white tobacco settle into sandalwood and saffron while tuberose, osmanthus, jasmine and orris soften the edges. The dry-down is deep and slow: tonka bean, vanilla, myrrh, labdanum, patchouli, musk, cedar and vetiver. Cold weather, low light, a room where people are talking quietly. It rewards being sat next to. Projects softly for the first two hours before settling into a 6-8 hour skin scent. Hand-poured in small batches in Richardson, TX as an Extrait de Parfum with 30% fragrance oils versus the 15-20% typical of an Eau de Parfum, so a little goes a long way.
