Blue Demon E4043 Aluminum Covered Electrodes E4043 is a general purpose aluminum electrode for arc welding aluminum alloys. The arc is stable and operates at low temperatures with a minimum of spatter and fuming. The welds are strong, dense, and free of porosity on both production and maintenance applications. E4043 is a great choice when welding heat-treated aluminum parts. This welding rod may also be used in brazing applications. This provides the "cleaning action" necessary to break through the tough aluminum oxide layer that sits on the surface of the metal. Travel Speed: Aluminum stick welding is fast. Once the arc starts, the rod consumes rapidly. Be prepared to move about twice as fast as you would with steel (like E6013). Moisture Sensitivity: E4043 electrode coatings are susceptible to picking up atmospheric moisture. Always keep your electrodes in a sealed container or a rod oven. Damp electrodes may produce excessive spatter or porosity. Preheating: For aluminum thicker than 1/8", preheating the workpiece to about 200°C (approx. 400°F) will help prevent the "cold start" look and ensure better penetration.
