Embroidery stitched directly through a vinyl record sleeve. 12x12x2 inches, framed in acrylic. Blue is one of the top rated albums of all time by a female artist. When I was younger, my taste in music was in a decidedly different vein than Joni Mitchells music. I had of course heard her, she was on my mother's playlist along with Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand. It was later in life that I re-discovered her music and as an adult I appreciated it differently that I ever could as a teenager. Blue is a timeless album that should be any music aficionados collection. The cover is a stylized photograph of Joni and I wanted to embellish the photo with hand dyed yarn embroidery. When planning the piece, I had just acquired a specialized yarn embroidery machine that I had shipped in from Japan and this is the first project that I created with it. The textural yarn looks amazing against the flat blue background of the album cover.
