"This was a very early idea of mine, reimagined with a fixed gradient. In prior versions, of which there are many in various sizes, I did a value gradient. In short, the greyscale versions would appear the same, but I used any color I wanted so long as it fit the value for the space. This is one of only 2 versions I painted that use fixed colors instead. The colors used are Prussian Blue and Quinacridone Violet, two colors I often pair together in my work. I used the same gradient for both sections, but flipped their orientation so the most contrast is at the outer and innermost sections. Growing up, I have many core memories involving patchwork quilts, handed down over the generations. This pattern reminds me of them, and for this reason I’ve returned to it many times over the years."
