This is a great opportunity to own an original and highly sought-after piece by one of the greats of the British Pop Art movement. Peter Blake was the Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band cover artist Size - 660 x 440mm (26 x 17 1/4in) A signed lithograph on tin, published in 2001, 67 x 45 cm in an edition of 2000 this being number 1857/2000. This piece is screwed at the corners to a timber backing board. Pallant House Gallery collaborated with the artist Peter Blake to create this multiple. The edition was part of the ‘Art For All’ ethos inspired by the ‘Sickert to the Sixties’ exhibition of prints and multiples at the Gallery in 2001. Widely regarded as the godfather of British Pop art and the Young British Artists movement, Peter Blake creates paintings, collages, and prints that blend modernity and nostalgia. Though best known for designing the album cover for the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, he considers painting to be central to his oeuvre. While celebrity figures inform his work, folk art, fairground signs, and an overall sense of nostalgia also influence his style. In 1997, at the age of 65, Blake emotionally retired from painting, he said, and entered what he calls his late period. He continues to work but is no longer interested in the art world’s opinion of his art, instead creating what he wants regardless of its relation to his previous paintings. Bobbie Rainbow is the fictional daughter of Babe Rainbow, herself a fictitious lady wrestling character created by Peter Blake in 1968 (and the subject of a similar Lithograph on tin edition, created for the BIBA store, in 1968), who in turn was the daughter of the infamous Doktor K.
