Some multi-exercise machines include a counterbalance feature. In certain exercises, the weight stack might lift if there’s insufficient weight on it. Depending on the machine, you may need one or more adapter plates (typically 1-3) to maintain balance. Commercial gyms often counterbalance machines to prevent the weight stack from lifting during different exercises.
