Wool is naturally absorbent, a great insulator (warm toes!), provides cushioning and is naturally odor resistant. Our wool socks are undyed, minimally processed, and completely made by hand, and therefore easy on the earth! Each pair of socks is crafted by hand by the artisan women of Kullvi WHIMS in Naggar, Himachal Pradesh. We've incorporated the durable and rustic natural desi wool from the region's indigenous Gaddi sheep breed. You will find beautiful variation in yarn thickness and colour in these handmade pieces, making each pair unique. Each pair of these socks is one of a kind ***The motifs are different on each pair. STORY In August 2019, when we visited Kullvi WHIMS in India for the first time, we sat together on the first day amongst piles of their handcrafted goods and samples. We spotted a pair of beautiful grey socks, and asked about them. Palmo, one of the artisans, who grew up in Lahaul, had knit them with local wool. We had seen similar socks in the village shops, but the motifs were knit in brightly coloured acrylic yarns. Palmo had used undyed grey and white wool instead, and they were beautiful and thick. Over time, as we worked on developing our wool yarns, we chose to make two kinds of socks -- our Boot Socks, knit with desi wool - more rustic, more durable and long lasting - and our Bed Socks, knit with Lahauli wool - luxuriously soft and cozy. MEASUREMENTS Size 1 will fit shoe size 36-38 EU Size 2 will fit shoe size 39-41 EU Calf Length: Approximately 9 inches (23 cms) Socks may feel tight when stretching over the heel and upper leg for the first few wears, but will ease with wear. Sarah is 5'9" (175 cm) tall, with a 15.75" (40 cm) calf circumference and a size 41 EU shoe. She is wearing the size 1 in grey and black. Sruthi is 5’11” (180 cm) tall, with a 15” (38 cm) calf circumference and a size 41 EU shoe. She is wearing the size 2 in grey and white. You-Shan is 4'11" (150 cm) tall, with a 12” (30 cm) calf circumference and size 35 EU shoe and is wearing the size 1 in grey and black. CARE Handwash in cool water, lay flat to dry in shade. Kruti, a stitching unit run by Anubhuti Social Foundation, provides employment opportunities to women in rural communities, by implementing training programs in tailoring.
