Extending like corn rows from behind the passenger terminal concourse are the station’s tracks and platform coverings (colored in yellow). On the opposite side of the head house, elevated railways (shown dashed) trace Causeway Street. From the bottom of the map, the East Cambridge Extension for streetcars follows Causeway Street past North Station, before turning eastward and running between Canal and Haverhill Streets. There, the line follows the Haymarket Incline into Haymarket Square Station of the Tremont Street Subway. From the top left corner of the map, the Charlestown Elevated crosses the Charles River via the Charlestown Bridge. At “Keany Square,” the rapid transit branches into the Atlantic Avenue Elevated (running off the top of the map) and the el for rapid transit trains over Causeway Street. The rapid transit el follows Causeway Street southward, before turning eastward, away from North Station at Haverhill Street. The rapid transit line runs through the North Station rapid transit elevated station, before descending into the Washington Street Tunnel via the Haymarket Incline.
