This Botanical is faded grandeur. The peonies are enormous, cream and dusty blush with golden stamens showing at their hearts, and between them sit clusters of small white jasmine and tight blue green buds still closed. The grey blue ground is almost entirely covered. The scale is generous and the colour deliberately washed out, which is why it reads so well on carved furniture and heavy drape rather than on a small garment.
