Boulevard Olympia Clematis (Clematis 'Evipo099')Boulevard Olympia Clematis is a compact flowering vine that brings rich color and a polished vertical accent to smaller gardens, patios, and entry spaces. Its manageable size makes it especially useful where a traditional large clematis would feel too vigorous or take up too much room. This variety delivers bold flowers over a long season, helping trellises, containers, and decorative supports feel more finished without becoming overwhelming. For gardeners who want strong bloom power in a smaller footprint, Olympia is an excellent fit.It works especially well in places where flowers can be enjoyed up close, such as beside a doorway, on a patio, or near seating areas. The compact habit also makes it easier to train and maintain than many larger clematis selections. Because it repeats well, it keeps contributing color after the first flush of spring bloom has passed. When you want a clematis with a refined look, generous flowering, and broad versatility, this one earns attention.Distinctive FeaturesBoulevard Olympia is a deciduous compact clematis with large mid-blue to rich violet-blue flowers, sometimes appearing single and sometimes semi-double in the earlier bloom cycle. The blooms are produced from late spring or early summer into late summer and early fall, giving the plant a notably extended display. Creamy yellow anthers add contrast and help the flowers stand out even more clearly against the green foliage. Its compact climbing habit and abundant flowering along much of the vine are what make it especially useful for smaller supports and container plantings.Growing Conditions Sun: Plant in full sun to partial shade, with the best performance often coming from good light on the vine and cooler, shaded roots. Soil: Grow in fertile, moist, well-drained soil, preferably enriched with organic matter and not allowed to stay waterlogged. Water: Provide regular water to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during establishment and when grown in containers. Zones: This clematis is generally hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 9. Deer Resistance: Deer resistance is often considered moderate, though browsing can still occur where pressure is high. Ideal Uses Containers: Its compact habit makes it an excellent choice for large patio pots with a trellis or obelisk. Trellises: Use it on small trellises, lattice panels, and decorative supports where the flowers can be displayed clearly. Entry Gardens: This variety is well suited to porches, gateways, and walkway plantings where it can add a more finished vertical layer. Mixed Plantings: Let it climb through shrubs or structural companions where the blue flowers can add contrast and softness. Focal Point: Use Boulevard Olympia Clematis as a focal point on a patio support or compact trellis where its rich blue flowers can anchor the planting and draw the eye through the season. Low Maintenance Care Watering: Keep the root zone evenly moist, especially during the first growing season and during hot, dry weather. Mulching: Apply mulch around the base to help keep roots cooler and maintain more even soil moisture. Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or early spring, removing weak or damaged stems while preserving strong framework growth for early flowering. Feeding: Feed in spring when new growth begins, then repeat lightly after the first flush to support continued blooming. Support: Provide a trellis, obelisk, or similar support early so new growth can climb and display flowers cleanly. Why Choose Boulevard Olympia Clematis? Compact Size: Its restrained habit makes it much easier to use in small gardens, patios, and container plantings than larger clematis vines. Rich Flower Color: The blue to violet-blue blooms bring cool-toned depth and a more dramatic garden presence. Repeat Bloom: Flowering over an extended season adds more value than a single short flush of color. Versatile Placement: It fits naturally on small trellises, in containers, and in mixed vertical plantings. Refined Presence: This variety offers a polished look that works well in both romantic and more structured garden designs. Boulevard Olympia Clematis is a rewarding choice when you want the beauty of clematis in a form that is easier to place, train, and enjoy. Its rich blue flowers, compact growth, and extended bloom season make it especially useful in smaller outdoor spaces. When vertical color needs to feel elegant rather than oversized, this variety is an easy one to appreciate.
