For a brief overview: Bourbon is perhaps the most famous coffee cultivar, having been imported from Yemen to Bourbon Island (now called La Réunion, located east of Madagascar) and eventually landing in the Americas in the mid 1800s. It's revered for it's consistent quality and has fathered other famous varieties including caturra and catuai. Bourbon has several genetic offshoots characterized by the color of the ripe coffee cherries with red being the most well known. Guatemala Atitlan Finca San Jose Del Lago Bourbon: This fully washed Red Bourbon is grown on the beautiful shores of Lake Atitlán. It's truly exceptional and quintessentially Guatemalan. Slightly complex with gentle acidity and a rich, buttery body. Look for notes of pear, concord grape, caramel and milk chocolate. El Salvador Finca el Gobiado Orange Bourbon Natural: This is a rare find: a single farm, single varietal coffee that's natural processed to boot! This lot is entirely of the Orange Bourbon varietal and natural processed to show the best it has to offer. Medium to full bodied with a silky texture, look for complex notes of white peach, vanilla, dried orange and dark chocolate with an herbaceous undertone. Colombia Huila Aguazul Pink Bourbon: This coffee is a stunning example of why Bourbon is the grandfather to so many varietals grown today. Pink bourbon is a hybrid of red and yellow bourbon varieties and is nearly exclusive to Colombian producers. This offering from 14 small farmers in Huila is balanced and rich with notes of milk chocolate, lime, honey and caramel with a floral compliment throughout.
