Miraculously, according to the legend, Pudsay and his trusted steed survived this audacious ’leap’ by landing in a deeper part of the River Ribble and fled. As a wonderful and romantic end to this story, he was later said to have been pardoned by his godmother, Queen Elizabeth I.
