A hinged round trinket box by Gien, the Loire Valley faïencerie that has been producing fine French ceramics since 1821. The decoration is classic Second Empire — gold scrollwork a nd foliate cartouches on a cream ground with powder blue banding at the equator, finished with a brass hinge and clasp. Gien pieces from this period are well-documented and consistently collected. A complete, intact example in good condition is not easy to find. Note: a few chips on the interior rim as shown.
