Quick Facts: ABV: 13% | Origin: Marlborough, New Zealand | Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir | Producer: Brancott Estate (Pernod Ricard) Production & Heritage Brancott Estate holds a foundational place in New Zealand wine history, having been the first to plant Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in the Marlborough region. Now owned by Pernod Ricard since 2005, the estate was also a founding member of the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand (SWNZ) initiative, reflecting a long-standing commitment to environmentally responsible viticulture. For its Pinot Noir, Brancott Estate favors stainless steel fermentation over heavy oak influence, sealed under screwcap to preserve fruit freshness and ensure consistent bottle-to-bottle quality. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose opens with an abundance of black and red fruit — think dark cherry and blackberry — layered with subtle toasty oak and a dusting of cinnamon. A secondary wave of dried plum and earthy undertones adds depth. Taste: The palate leads with rich plum and red cherry before broadening into blackberry and redcurrant at the mid-palate. Hints of vanilla and warm spice ride alongside ripe, medium-level tannins that provide structure without grip. The overall impression is clean, balanced, and fruit-forward. Finish: A long finish delivers roasted plum alongside a hint of bitter chocolate. Mocha-like warmth lingers gently, leaving the palate refreshed rather than heavy. How to Drink Brancott Pinot Noir Serve slightly below room temperature, around 14–16°C (57–61°F), to let the fruit aromatics shine without amplifying the alcohol. A few minutes of breathing in the glass will open up the deeper spice and chocolate notes. This wine works well neat as a stand-alone pour, or alongside a meal where its medium weight and balanced acidity can complement a range of dishes. Its fruit-forward, light-tannin profile also makes it a surprisingly effective base for a red wine Sangria, a Pinot Noir Spritz with a splash of sparkling water and citrus peel, or a Burgundy-style Kir using a dash of blackcurrant liqueur.
