This companion piece to Brass Snake Trio (2023) was completed on the day a small grass snake—first spotted in the artist’s kitchen—was safely captured and released. During the days the snake remained hidden, the artist imagined it as part of a trio of brass instruments, drawing a playful connection to New Orleans’ musical culture. The painting continues the use of water-based stains in jewel-like blue and green tones, highlighting the serpentine form, the bell-like head of the snake in shiny brass. The snake suggests both movement and sound, transforming an unexpected encounter into a rhythmic, symbolic composition. This is a unique, original artwork.
