Armed with her well-worn copy of Field Guide to the Birds of Australia, she loves to set off on solo treks into the bush, scanning the skies for delicious…sorry, deliciously beautiful birds. Brenda once worked as a high school science teacher, adored by her students for her fiery enthusiasm and unapologetic eccentricity. Her keen eyes would sparkle brightest on the days she brought animals in for dissection, much to the horror and fascination of her class. Now a retired empty nester, Brenda has traded lesson plans for binoculars. She spends her days in peaceful solitude, finding joy in the quiet and satisfaction in ticking off another “lifer” from her list. Grateful for her busy career and the children she raised, Brenda has come to cherish the slower pace of life. Her only regret? Not learning to savour it sooner.
