The Brick 1 Vase is the inaugural sculptural work in the Brick Block, Tick Tick series—a project that addresses gender-based violence and the urgent need to reconstruct a more just foundation. Cast in clay and hand-shaped, the vase is inspired by the artist’s lineage—one grandfather a bricklayer, the other a ceramicist—bridging labor, craft, and resistance through form. Shaped in a stepped silhouette, the piece echoes the slow, deliberate act of rebuilding—one layer at a time. It serves as both a vessel and a metaphor: holding space for memory, transformation, and collective resilience. Glazed in soft Dove Grey or Natural White, the surface preserves the texture of its mold, embracing imperfection and the trace of the hand, standing in quiet opposition to systemic erasure. More than an object, Brick 1 marks a beginning. A step. A call to lay the first brick toward change.
