A multipurpose Welsh apple that can be used for cider and cooking, also a good eater. The name translates to 'large and speckled' and is a beautiful looking apple, yellow green wit h red fleck and dappled red blush. Has a sharp taste and makes a wonderful puree. Exhibited by John Basham of Fairoak Nurseries, Bassaleg, at the RHS Apples and Pears Conference in 1934, it subsequently disappeared from record. Rediscovered growing in a garden near Cardiff a few years ago and identified by the last manager of Fairoak Nurseries before his death. Show more
