Incentive Create a portrait based on the artwork of Romero Britto. -Line-Shape-Space-Colour Supplies Art paper Black Backing paper Paint Small, fine paintbrush Pencil Black marker Lesson 1 Study some of Romero Britto’s portraits and his amazing use of colour and patterns. 2 Draw a very large outline of a face with lead pencil and add personal features:- hair, eyes, nose, mouth, neck. 3 Divide face into sections and possibly add a symbol of some type. 4 Add more lines to the hair to make smaller shape or sections. 5 The background can be one colour with patterns or divided into many sections each with its own pattern. 6 Once drawing is complete, use fine paintbrush to paint all the sections in bright colours. Allow to dry. 7 Use black marker to highlight each area by outlining everything, including the smaller shapes. 8 Sign name to the corner of the artwork. 9 Display with samples of Britto’s work or with a self-description near the artwork. 10 This makes for an extremely colourful display, and is a good activity for children at the beginning of the year when rooms need to be decorated quickly.
