Solid bronze floppy disk by contemporary artist Nancy Pearce. ~1lb Notes from Nancy:"Bronze artifacts, nevertheless, I existed," is an homage to my persistence, echoing the resilie nce of these objects as historical records. I began casting everyday items in bronze about eight years ago, starting with a dustpan and my child's plastic toys, to highlight the unglamorous work behind them. This playful experiment evolved into a serious endeavor amid climate change and mass extinction threats. Motivated by a New York Times podcast on Neanderthals, I aim to archive everyday objects in bronze, ensuring future archaeologists have pieces of our history. The durability and recyclability of bronze mean these items will outlast their originals and could serve as currency in a dystopian future. Show more
